MATERIALS AND CARE

Technical outerwear works best when cared for. Our gear is machine wash friendly and easy to clean. We recommend using a technical garment wash and repellant as needed in order to get the longest life out of your garment.

HOW TO CLEAN

PREPARE THE PONCHO

  • Close all zippers.
  • Make sure your washing machine is clean (avoid washing right after a muddy load).

WASHING

  • We recommend using special outerwear detergent like Grangers
    Performance Wash (follow bottle instructions).
  • Wash in warm water on a normal setting with low water volume.

DRYING

  • Tumble dry on medium to low heat (high heat may cause damage).
  • Dry until completely dry, but avoid over-drying (usually around 30 minutes, check
    periodically).

STAINS

  • For spot cleaning stains, we recommend using Buncha Farmers all natural stain remover stick.
  • Wet the stained area, apply the stick, lather up the soap, and work the stain gently by hand. Rinse the area thoroughly with warm water.
  • If stain persists, try following up with Grangers Performance Outerwear Wash.
TREATMENT INFORMATION

Treating and cleaning your poncho is safe and good to do in order to keep it looking and performing it's best. It's as easy as doing a load of laundry.

We recommend using a wash-in DWR treatment like Grangers once or twice a year, depending on usage. If the outer fabric becomes wet, the membrane will still keep water out but it may not breathe as well which in turn can cause sweat or condensation to build up. Treating your poncho helps put less work on the membrane, ensuring you stay dryer, longer.

  • First wash with special outerwear detergent
  • Wash again with repel formula as needed such as Grangers Clothing Repel (follow bottle instructions).
  • Wash in warm water on a setting that allows a soaking period and no extra rinse.
  • Tumble dry on medium to low heat (high heat may cause damage).
  • Dry until completely dry, but avoid over-drying (usually around 30 minutes, check
    periodically).
WATERPROOFING INFORMATION

HOW IT WORKS

Our waterproof breathable fabric works by combining a durable water repellent (DWR) on the outer layer with a waterproof membrane laminated to a protective inner layer. The DWR coating helps water to bead and roll off the face of the fabric, while the membrane inside blocks rain from getting in. This membrane is designed to prevent rain from entering the poncho but also allow heat vapor to escape, allowing you to stay dry without overheating.

Prolonged exposure, dirt, and abrasion can weaken the DWR and cause the face of the fabric to become wet. This isn’t a failure of waterproofing as the membrane is still working to keep water out. Drying the garment between uses can extend the life of the DWR. If face fabric becomes wet quickly, it may be time to treat the garment with a repellant wash.

Face fabric left untreated can prevent the membrane from expelling heat vapour. This can cause condensation to build up. Often this is mistaken for moisture getting through
when infact a repellant treatment is recommended.
